China's top economic planner says it intends to step up the development of bio-industry in the country. The Vice Minister in charge of the National Development and Reform Commission made the announcement at the China Bio-industry Convention in Changsha.
Wang Jinxiang said rapid expansion in the economy means there is a pressing need to solve problems that often accompany this growth, such as energy shortfalls and damage to the environment. Wang says he believes faster development in the bio-industry could be one big factor in addressing these issues, and that the NDRC aims to promote bio-industry as a national economic strategic sector. The top economic planner has also promised to boost related industries such as bio-medicine, bio-agriculture and bio-manufacture.
