AUSTIN, Texas - Emerson Electric Co. said Tuesday its Emerson Process Management unit received a contract to digitally automate BP's chemical plant in China.
Financial terms weren't disclosed. Emerson said it will engineer and manage the automation project using its digital technology that works by networking smart devices in plants to gather data. That information can be used by personnel to correct equipment and process issues before they interrupt production, the company said. The BP (nyse: BP - news - people ) Zhuhai facility makes purified terephthalic acid, a key raw material in making polyester fiber, resin and film, and also an ingredient in clothing, beverage bottles, music tapes and tires. Emerson Process Management helps businesses automate production, processing and distribution in the chemical, oil and gas, refining and other industries. Shares of St. Louis-based Emerson rose 34 cents to $50.56 in afternoon trading.
